Income Tax Rates in Pakistan for Salaried Individuals 2026-27
For Tax Year 2027, the calculator applies the following salaried individual tax structure:
| Annual Taxable Income | Tax Calculation |
|---|---|
| Up to Rs. 600,000 | 0% |
| Rs. 600,001 – Rs. 1,200,000 | 1% of amount exceeding Rs. 600,000 |
| Rs. 1,200,001 – Rs. 2,200,000 | Rs. 6,000 + 11% of amount exceeding Rs. 1,200,000 |
| Rs. 2,200,001 – Rs. 3,200,000 | Rs. 116,000 + 20% of amount exceeding Rs. 2,200,000 |
| Rs. 3,200,001 – Rs. 4,100,000 | Rs. 316,000 + 25% of amount exceeding Rs. 3,200,000 |
| Rs. 4,100,001 – Rs. 5,600,000 | Rs. 541,000 + 29% of amount exceeding Rs. 4,100,000 |
| Rs. 5,600,001 – Rs. 7,000,000 | Rs. 976,000 + 32% of amount exceeding Rs. 5,600,000 |
| Above Rs. 7,000,000 | Rs. 1,424,000 + 35% of amount exceeding Rs. 7,000,000 |
The important point is that the highest percentage is not charged on your entire income. Pakistan uses a progressive slab structure, so the applicable marginal rate is charged according to the relevant portion of taxable income.
For the underlying tax law and current material, refer to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the FBR Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.
Salaried Income Tax Calculation Example
Suppose a salaried individual has annual taxable income of:
Rs. 2,400,000
This falls in the slab above Rs. 2,200,000 and up to Rs. 3,200,000.
The applicable calculation is:
Rs. 116,000 + 20% of the amount exceeding Rs. 2,200,000
Excess income:
Rs. 2,400,000 − Rs. 2,200,000 = Rs. 200,000
Tax on excess amount:
Rs. 200,000 × 20% = Rs. 40,000
Therefore:
Estimated Annual Income Tax = Rs. 156,000
The monthly equivalent would be approximately:
Rs. 156,000 ÷ 12 = Rs. 13,000
This example also demonstrates why applying a flat percentage to total salary can produce an incorrect result.
Income Tax Rates for Non-Salaried Individuals
The Income Tax Calculator Pakistan also includes a separate option for Non-Salaried Individuals.
The calculator currently applies the following rate structure for this category:
| Annual Taxable Income | Tax Calculation |
|---|---|
| Up to Rs. 600,000 | 0% |
| Rs. 600,001 – Rs. 1,200,000 | 15% of amount exceeding Rs. 600,000 |
| Rs. 1,200,001 – Rs. 1,600,000 | Rs. 90,000 + 20% of amount exceeding Rs. 1,200,000 |
| Rs. 1,600,001 – Rs. 3,200,000 | Rs. 170,000 + 30% of amount exceeding Rs. 1,600,000 |
| Rs. 3,200,001 – Rs. 5,600,000 | Rs. 650,000 + 40% of amount exceeding Rs. 3,200,000 |
| Above Rs. 5,600,000 | Rs. 1,610,000 + 45% of amount exceeding Rs. 5,600,000 |
Selecting the correct category is therefore essential. A salaried taxpayer and a non-salaried taxpayer with the same taxable income can have substantially different estimated income-tax liabilities.
Salaried vs Non-Salaried Tax Calculation
The calculator keeps these two categories separate because their applicable tax rates are different.
A salaried individual should select the salaried option where the applicable statutory requirements for treatment as a salaried person are satisfied.
The non-salaried individual option is intended for individual taxpayers whose taxable income is subject to the applicable non-salaried individual rate structure, such as relevant business or professional income cases.
Do not select the salaried category simply because you receive some salary income. Your actual tax treatment depends on the composition and nature of your taxable income under the Income Tax Ordinance.
Monthly Income vs Annual Income
You can enter income in either monthly or annual form.
If you select Monthly Taxable Income, the calculator annualizes the amount:
Monthly Taxable Income × 12 = Annual Taxable Income
It then applies the relevant annual tax slab.
For example, monthly taxable income of:
Rs. 200,000
is annualized as:
Rs. 200,000 × 12 = Rs. 2,400,000
The calculator then calculates tax on the annual Rs. 2.4 million amount and displays the annual tax as well as its monthly equivalent.
This makes the tool useful for employees who normally think of their income in monthly salary terms.
What Does “Effective Tax Rate” Mean?
The effective tax rate tells you what percentage of your total taxable income is represented by the estimated income tax.
It is different from the highest marginal tax rate applicable to your income.
For example, a taxpayer may fall into a slab with a 20% marginal rate, but that does not mean 20% is charged on every rupee of income.
The calculator determines the effective rate using:
Estimated Annual Tax ÷ Annual Taxable Income × 100
This provides a more realistic picture of the overall income-tax burden.
What Is Taxable Income?
The amount entered in the calculator should be the taxable income relevant to the selected category, rather than automatically assuming that every receipt, bank deposit or cash inflow represents taxable income.
Taxable income can depend on the nature of income, exemptions, deductions, allowances, tax credits and other provisions of the Income Tax Ordinance.
For salaried employees in particular, gross salary, taxable salary and take-home salary should not automatically be treated as interchangeable amounts.
If you are determining tax for an actual FBR return, first establish the correct taxable income and then use the calculator as an estimation tool.
Tax Year 2027 Explained
The calculator is configured for Tax Year 2027 (2026-27).
Pakistan’s normal Tax Year generally ends on 30 June and is named according to the calendar year in which that date falls.
Therefore:
1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027 = Tax Year 2027
For a detailed explanation, read Tax Year vs Financial Year vs Assessment Year in Pakistan.
Selecting the correct Tax Year is important because income-tax rates can change through Finance Acts.
Does the Calculator Include Withholding Tax Already Deducted?
No. The main result estimates income tax from the taxable income and selected individual category.
It does not automatically know how much tax has already been deducted or collected from you during the year.
For example, a salaried employee may already have income tax deducted by the employer. Other taxpayers may also have adjustable withholding taxes appearing in their FBR records.
Those amounts may need to be considered separately when determining the taxpayer’s final payable or refundable position.
The calculator’s estimated tax liability should therefore not automatically be interpreted as the exact amount still payable to FBR.
Does the Calculator Include Every Tax, Credit or Special Regime?
No.
The calculator is designed to provide a clear estimate under the selected normal individual income-tax rate table.
Depending on a taxpayer’s circumstances, the final tax position may also be affected by matters such as:
- Tax credits
- Exempt income
- Adjustable withholding taxes
- Separate or special tax treatment
- Final-tax treatment where applicable
- Foreign-source income considerations
- Special provisions of the Income Tax Ordinance
- Other taxpayer-specific adjustments
For this reason, the calculator should be used as an estimation and planning tool rather than as a replacement for a complete tax computation.
Income Tax Calculator Pakistan – Why Your Actual FBR Tax May Differ
Your final FBR tax figure can differ from the calculator result if the amount entered is not your final taxable income or if additional adjustments apply to your case.
Common reasons include:
- Incorrectly entering gross receipts instead of taxable income
- Selecting the wrong taxpayer category
- Ignoring allowable tax credits
- Ignoring tax already deducted or collected
- Having more than one source of income
- Applying a special tax provision
- Using rates from the wrong Tax Year
For an accurate return, the taxpayer’s complete income and tax-credit position should be reconciled before submission.
Income Tax Calculator and Active Taxpayer Status
Calculating or paying income tax does not by itself determine whether a person appears on the Active Taxpayer List.
ATL status is connected with the applicable return-filing requirements and FBR’s Active Taxpayer List rules.
For a detailed comparison, read Active Taxpayer vs Non-Active Taxpayer in Pakistan.
This distinction is particularly important because different withholding and transaction tax rates may apply depending on a person’s tax status.
